Hotels on the horizon, recently renovated 

Houston's hotel market is on fire. Growing demand for rooms has led to rising occupancy rates and a slew of new development. More than 2,300 rooms will come online Downtown alone in the next few years, with hundreds more slated for the Galleria, Energy Corridor, and the Medical Center.

Check out the projects being planned, in order of expected completion dates, as well as those properties that recently got facelifts.

Now Open

Hyatt Place Houston Downtown - Opened January 2021 
Kick back in one of 150 rooms, including 16 suites, in the center of the city at Hyatt Place Houston / Downtown. Look out at the lights of downtown from a high-floor room in our 16-story hotel, or opt for a 352-square-foot standard room with a sofa bed to lounge on. Once you’re unpacked, head out to a rock concert or comedy show at the nearby Revention Music Center.

Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites Houston Galleria- Opened March 2021
Houston-based American Liberty Hospitality (ALH) is expanding its regional footprint with the rollout of the company’s second dual-branded hotel, bringing two distinct-yet-complementary lodging experiences under one hometown roof. The combined Holiday Inn Express Houston – Galleria Area and Staybridge Suites Houston – Galleria Area will offer a total of 319 rooms and will be the first new hospitality offering in the Bayou City’s sought-after Galleria area in several years when it makes its February 2021 debut. Both brands are franchises of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

C. Baldwin Hotel - Opened October 2019
C. Baldwin is a high end and hyper-localized, independent hotel – inspired by the Bayou City’s unsung hero, Charlotte Baldwin Allen, who used her inheritance to finance the City of Houston. From stylishly inspired guestrooms, stunning common areas, and a signature restaurant – also named after a groundbreaking woman – to a luxury nail salon, curated local retailers, activated green space, and 14,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event offerings, C. Baldwin is assuredly upping the ante in Houston’s hospitality landscape.

Cambria Hotel Houston Downtown- Opened September 2019
The new hotel will occupy the current 21 story Great Southwest Building – a long historic landmark in the center of Downtown which was originally built in 1927 and features unique Art Deco accents through the building's architecture. 

AC Hotel By Marriott - Opened July 2019
Downtown’s century-old Houston Bar Center transformed into an AC Hotel by Marriott. The $44 million European-style project is located at 723 Main and brings 185 new rooms to the area.

InterContinental Houston - Medical Center - Opened March 2019
InterContinental Houston - Medical Center brings modern luxury to the Texas Medical Center. The 22-story, 354-room hotel opened at the beginning of 2019. Travelers looking for a modern retreat next to the world's largest medical complex can look no further. As the first full-service luxury hotel for the area in decades, the hotel is also conveniently located in Central Houston within close proximity of the city's Museum District, Houston Zoo, Hermann Park, and several other attractions.

Blossom Hotel

Blossom Hotel Houston Medical Center – Opened in February 2022 The 13-story, 267-room  hotel at 7118 Bertner is the only luxury hotel near NRG Stadium and the latest entry into the Texas Medical Center's field of luxury hotels. The Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton 
Located on the southwest corner of Almeda Road and Holcombe Boulevard on the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus, The Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton project will feature a combined 300 rooms.

Hyatt House/Hyatt Place Houston Texas Medical Center 
Houston-based developer Satya Inc. has broken ground on a 350,000-square-foot hotel near the Texas Medical Center. The project, at 7329 Fannin St. near the corner of Fannin and Old Spanish Trail, is slated to be branded as a dual Hyatt hotel and extended stay facility. The 14-story development will offer 159 hotel rooms under the Hyatt Place flag and 139 extended stay rooms under the Hyatt House brand. The development will be Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corp.'s (NYSE: H) first dual-branded property in Houston.

Hilton University of Houston -  Expansion/Renovation Expected 2022
A $30.4 million project to expand and renovate the Hilton University of Houston, the teaching hotel for students at UH’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Design plans include the addition of a five-story tower consisting of 71 guest rooms above the south wing, increasing the hotel’s total number of rooms to 151. Six suites on the second floor will be removed to create much-needed executive meeting space. The hotel’s existing 80 guest rooms in its north wing will be renovated, along with its lobby and public spaces. The adjacent courtyard between the north, south and west wings will also be renovated.

Hilton Garden Inn Houston Downtown - Opening 2022 (150 rooms)

Thompson Hotel Houston - Opening 2023
Construction is underway on this luxury hotel. Situated directly overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park, the Lifestyle Pavilion will be the first of the five towers to open in The Allen, with it slated to debut in 2021. Not far behind will be the second tower ― a 35 story Hotel Condo Tower, with its upper floor condominium Residences at The Allen (with commanding views on floors 16 to 35). The condos will be open by the end of 2022, and the lower section (floors 8 to 15) will debut as the Thompson Hotel by 2023.

JW Marriott Houston by The Galleria - Completed 2023
Located within Houston’s thriving uptown epicenter, JW Marriott Houston by The Galleria recently unveiled the last multi-million dollar renovation phase of the guest rooms, suites and corridors to finalize the hotel’s complete transformation. The enhancements join the refreshed meeting and public spaces, lobby and executive lounge which were finished in 2019. The revamped spaces reflect thoughtful design choices by Parker-Torres Design that represent Houston’s rich history and culture, while creating intentional transitions throughout the hotel’s interior. Attention was given to creating spaces that enhance the guest experience while also evoking a warm and welcoming environment. Other notable changes in the guest rooms include new 55-inch televisions and upgraded bedding options from double beds to double queen beds. The transformation provides leisure and business travelers with luxurious accommodations in a refreshing environment. The renewed property showcases a design that captures expressions of Houston’s diverse history built on the ship channel, railway system, and oil and gas industry; the physical location of the hotel nestled between the city’s most exclusive neighborhoods; and the redefinition of the city’s traditional values into the rich culture and hub of innovation that it currently represents.

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa - Completed 2023
 The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa is near completion of its $70 million project to enhance the luxury lifestyle experiences across the property. The Houstonian sits on 27 acres at 111 N. Post Oak Lane in the Uptown/Galleria area. Several of the freshly renovated areas are already in use, which include completely remodeled guest rooms and suites, a new Bush Suite, an “enhanced arrival experience”, and a refreshed hotel lobby. The fitness club debuted new group exercise studios, a cycling studio, expanded childcare areas, and a new full-service restaurant and bar with indoor/outdoor adult and family-friendly dining. 
Trellis Spa is now the largest luxury spa in Texas at 26,500 square feet. The highlight of this expansion is a new outdoor Soaking Pools & Garden area.
