Vieng Thai

Vieng Thai has received a lot of praise over the years; the Houston Press named it the “Best Thai” in town as far back as 2000. With that kind of street cred and authenticity, Vieng Thai is adding to the international mix of Long Point Road.

It all began as a grocery store and, despite its evolution to today’s restaurant, Vieng Thai hasn’t moved from its strip mall location nor has it lost its original spirit. With opening hours less than firm and regular closings due to private events, it is better to call ahead to make sure they are open. You should also be flexible as some dishes can be temporarily unavailable – but it is all part of a wonderful culinary adventure.

You won’t be disappointed by the unique dishes that are refreshingly un-Americanized. Fried pilot fish, Thai slick sausage, and various versions of lime-dressed salads are joined by a homely omelet, filled with ground pork and green herbs. BBQ fans should be especially fond of the E-sarn sausage platter that includes pork links with peanuts, red onion, and cilantro garnishes.

Good to know: requests for mild and less spicy versions are honored and Vieng Thai is BYOB.
