La Mexicana

In a city with a Tex-Mex joint on every corner, the competition is fierce. So when you stumble across a gem such as La Mexicana that is still going strong after 30 years in the business—you know it has to be good.

This Montrose eatery has been family-owned and operated since 1982, when the Trevino family purchased a grocery store and converted it into a restaurant. Their goal has always been the same—to serve the same authentic Mexican comfort food that they grew up on.

Don’t expect any frills here, only classic dishes served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try the menudo—a delicious bowl of honeycomb tripe soup simmered with a variety of spices served on Saturdays and Sundays only. For breakfast dig into a number of their breakfast tacos or try our favorite, the huevos a la Mexicana—scrambled eggs with diced onion, tomatoes and jalapenos.

But don’t stop at the food. La Mexicana offers three happy hours throughout the day, that’s right, three. Grab a mimosa or bloody mary with breakfast, a traditional Rita with lunch or a top-shelf Pura Vida Rita at dinner.
